Frequently Asked Questions

Text or Call 626-274-1056 for Additional Information.  FAQs

Many estate planning documents require witnesses in addition to notarization. California Notaries Public are not required to provide witnesses, so if your documents require witnesses, please let me know when scheduling your appointment. We can discuss your specific needs in advance.

Please confirm if you NEED witnesses for your document(s). Seek the advice of your attorney or document preparer to confirm.  Witness qualifications may vary depending on the document being signed. If your documents require witnesses, follow the instructions provided by your attorney or document preparer.

To be a witness for the signing of a document, the witness must be 18 years of age, they may not be named within the document, and they can have no benefit received from the signing of the document nor be related to the transaction in any way. You may provide your own witness(es) for the signing.

If the notary must provide an additional witness for you, there is a $30 fee PER witness in addition to the Mobile Notary Appointment Fee and Notarization Costs.

Some estate planning documents require notarization, while others do not. Documents such as powers of attorney, certifications of trust, deeds, and advance health care directives are commonly notarized. Your attorney will let you know which documents require notarization as part of your estate plan.

Yes. Estate plans often include multiple documents requiring notarization. As long as all required signers are present with acceptable identification, the entire notarization can usually be completed during a single appointment.

Review your estate plan before your appointment to make sure all documents are complete and ready for signing. If you have questions about the contents of your documents, speak with your attorney before the notarization appointment.

Yes. Siu Mobile Signings provides mobile notary services throughout El Monte, Temple City, and Arcadia. I travel to your home, attorney's office, workplace, hospital, care facility, or another agreed-upon location for your appointment.

Yes. Estate planning appointments often take place in hospitals, rehabilitation centers, assisted living communities, or skilled nursing facilities. If the signer is alert, willing, and meets California's legal requirements for notarization, I can travel to these locations for the appointment.

No. Unless your attorney specifically instructs you otherwise, documents that require notarization should remain unsigned until you are in the presence of the notary. I will let you know when it is time to sign during the appointment.

California law requires the signer to present an acceptable, unexpired or otherwise qualifying identification document before a notarization can be completed. If you are unsure whether your identification is acceptable, contact me before your appointment and I'll be happy to discuss your options.

Yes. If more than one person needs documents notarized, everyone can typically be scheduled during the same appointment. Each signer must personally appear before the notary and present their own acceptable identification.

Every situation is unique. California law provides specific procedures in certain circumstances, but the signer must still be able to communicate their willingness to sign and meet all legal requirements for notarization. If you're unsure about your situation, contact me before scheduling so we can discuss the circumstances.

The length of an appointment depends on the number of documents and signers involved. Most appointments take between 30 and 60 minutes, although larger estate plans may take longer.

No. As a California Notary Public, I cannot provide legal advice or explain the legal effect of your documents. If you have questions about the contents of your estate plan, your attorney is the best person to answer them before your appointment.
